C is for Carivigno
An Alphabytes Entry
I searched my brain for a C word. I decided a theme is being borne of it's own volition. Travel.
Carivigno is a neat, neat, neat, did I say NEAT, little town about 20 miles from San Vito Di Normani, which was where we lived when we first moved to Italy. Carivigno was a popular town with the Americans because of a restaurant called La Fontanella.
I moved to Italy about a month behind my family. They left in July for Italy and I stayed behind in Germany in a British Hospital. When I was medivaced down, it was my 12th birthday. So my parents took me out to a fancy dinner my first night there. What a wonderful treat the Fontanella was.
Forever in my memory, is this beautiful restaurant with the town fountain located in front of it. The interior was a series of large rooms, separated by arch ways and thick pillars. It seemed there must have been 12-15 rooms like this, though, in reality, I am sure there were just 3-5. :) The rooms were lit with that pale yellow Mediterranean back lighting and Italian music filtering through. It was and is, as if right out of a movie. I know it sounds corny. :)
Watching Under the Tuscan Sun, triggers many a memory from Carivigno. We'd eat dinner, then walk the streets of Carivigno for an hour or two. Window shopping and admiring the quiet town with it's warm and inviting streets. I always wished we could live there in that town. It was always such a treat to drive over to it.
OK, so now I've done my C word...bring on D!!!
