H is for Honoring Helen

Today, they lay you to rest. Your years of failing health and loss of your other loved ones, now behind you. Being your namesake, I’ve hardly lived up to the grace you’ve always had. Growing up so far from you and Clarence, I felt lost in visiting with you. In competition with all the hordes of other grandchildren you’d already had.

I knew you and Clarence so well, through the years of correspondence. But in person, so much was lost. Because, not only am I your namesake, I am also the same stoic personality that you were. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Now you’re gone and there is no more. Rest well Helen.
