Q is for Quintessential
An Alphabytes Entry
"the perfect embodiment of a thing; containing the most essential; of the highest or 5th essence; "
I was doing something mundane yesterday and my little man came up to me and hugged my leg, kissed me and told me I was the most *magnificent* mom. (He got this new word from a movie he'd watched.) I love this feeling. I love that my little boy is so positive that he gleans positive vocabulary words from movies and uses them. He doesn't come in and say the angry words, he finds the positive ones.
The word quintessential popped into my head and I found myself wondering where it'd come from. Then I decided it was likely just as good a Q word as any. So I looked it up to make sure I was firmly grasping it's use. When I read the statement "Of the highest or 5th element." And I realized my little man is the quintessential child in our pack of 5. He is also the 5th grandchild, 5th male grand child.
He is the making of both of us, brother to all and special from the moment of his conception. Not to down play any other child's conception, his role is just different in many ways. He's a second chance to my husband to know a child of his own. Since his ex whisked his kids away and has a firm, greedy grasp on their custody. He's my chance to know I can be a good mom. That the first time wasn't a fluke with a child who was always a good kid anyway. And he's the brother my son needed. And the brother my step children needed to give them a blood connection to this new marriage of their father's. He's the last grandchild on both sides of our family, a special surprise for all of us. He's the special little light that glows so brightly and so warmly for each of us in his family.
He is our quintessential child, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin.

That was very well written and well thought out. Kind of made me a little teary-eyed, but in a good way. It's nice to smile so big at 6:00a.m. ~Bianca
